A Slovakian hockey player for the Edmonton Oilers has been reprimanded for a minor doping violation at the Vancouver Olympics. Red Wings forward Kirk Maltby has been placed on long-term injured reserve and will have right shoulder surgery that will sideline him for four to six weeks. Detroit also activated defenseman Andreas Lilja (LIL’-yeh) from injured reserve Friday. The nine-year NHL veteran is expected to make his season debut Monday against the Colorado Avalanche.

Forward Rene Bourque has signed a $20 million, six-year contract extension with the Calgary Flames. The team made the announcement Thursday. Bourque will receive $8 million from 2010-12.
